Romania has among the fewest nights of accommodation purchased by foreign tourists out of the total rentals in the first three months of the year. According to EU statistics, on average, half of the nights of accommodation are purchased by foreign tourists.
In the first quarter of 2025, there were 452.4 million overnight stays in tourist accommodation throughout the European Union, marking a slight decrease compared to the same quarter of 2024.
Foreign visitors accounted for approximately 45.6% of total overnight stays, with large differences between EU countries.
The highest share of overnight stays abroad during this period was recorded in Malta, Cyprus, and Luxembourg.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, foreign guests accounted for only one-fifth of the number of overnight stays in Poland, followed by Romania and Germany, with just over 20%.
The share reserved by foreign tourists increased by 1.1%, with the largest increases recorded in Latvia, Malta, and Finland, up 10.6%.
At the other end of the range, the largest decreases in the number of foreign visitors were recorded in Ireland, Croatia, and Sweden, down 11.5%.
