The project involves setting up a space with an operating theater, wards, and therapy rooms for treating neurological conditions.
For several years, the medical unit has been training specialists in minimally invasive surgery and functional neurosurgery, including at centers abroad. The investment, estimated at €2 million, will be made after the completion of the city's burn center.
Children in the area are currently sent for treatment to clinics in Bucharest or abroad.
Senior neurosurgeon Andrei Branzeu: At present, we are encountering obstacles in the development of neurosurgery at the Timisoara County Hospital, due to the pressure of emergencies in particular, and we want to eliminate these obstacles by creating new spaces and a new working environment for neurosurgery. We do not have dedicated circuits for children, and there are many children with neurosurgical conditions every year. We want to create a dedicated space for pediatric neurosurgery, which could address a large proportion of children hospitalized in neurosurgery departments across the country, amounting to two to three thousand patients per year. Of these, a thousand could return to the Timisoara County Hospital.
The construction of the new pediatric neurosurgery ward will be carried out with the help of the business community, with the Timis Chamber of Commerce and Industry already expressing its agreement in principle for this project.
