It's a busy day today at Cotroceni Palace, where President Nicusor Dan's official consultations with parliamentary parties are in full swing.
The main topic of discussion is picking a candidate for prime minister.
So far, the head of state has met with delegations from PSD, PNL, and USR, while AUR and S.O.S. Romania have declined the invitation to consultations.
President Nicusor Dan expressed his hope that today's negotiations will lead to a consensus. The message was conveyed at the start of discussions with PSD, PNL, and USR.
Nicusor Dan: I hope we will have a productive discussion, I hope we will return to normalcy in the coming days.
The discussions with the PNL delegation, led by Senate leader Ilie Bolojan, lasted just over 30 minutes, the maximum time allotted to all parties, and at the end of the consultations, the liberals chose not to make any statements here at the Cotroceni Palace.
The first to arrive for the discussions were those from PSD. Tomorrow there will be internal consultations to decide whether PSD will enter the government, and on Saturday there will be a vote for the party's team of ministers. Reducing state spending, prioritizing investments, and generating additional revenue for the budget are the three directions for reducing the budget deficit, said PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu.
Sorin Grindeanu: Based on what has been discussed in recent weeks, on economic measures and the political agreement, things seem to be moving in the right direction at the moment, but that will be decided by our party members tomorrow, when we will present all these things related to economic measures and the political agreement, as discussed until today.
AUR was not present at the discussions, and consultations with USR are currently coming to an end. Discussions are continuing here at the Cotroceni Palace after a long day yesterday. The leaders of PSD, PNL, USR, and UDMR negotiated yesterday on the distribution of ministries and the government program, which includes austerity measures, and it appears that they will meet again this afternoon with President Nicusor Dan, according to sources.
