President Nicusor Dan and Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan consider that the presence in Beijing of former social-democratic prime ministers Adrian Nastase and Viorica Dancila, alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin, is not likely to commit Romania in any way, since the two do not hold any position in the Romanian state.
Defense Minister Ionut Mosteanu believes that the appearance of the two former prime ministers alongside the president of an aggressor country - Russia - "is a slap in the face to Romania's democracy, pro-Europeanism and Western alliances".
Foreign Minister Oana Toiu also had a harsh reaction, criticizing the two former politicians for appearing alongside Vladimir Putin a few days after a Russian drone attacked a ship near the border on the Danube and a few weeks after Russia also bombed Romanian-speaking communities in Ukraine.
