The major education union confederations express their disagreement with the statement by President Nicusor Dan proposing to prioritize increased investment in defense at the expense of funds allocated to education and health.
In the open letter addressed to the head of state, the unions argue that this approach is unacceptable, as it does not take into account the real needs of the education system or the provisions in force.
According to the law, the system is financed by allocating at least 15% of the total expenditure of the consolidated general budget, according to the Federation of Free Trade Unions in Education and the National Federations "Alma Mater" and "Spiru Haret."
They argue that any additional budget allocation for defense must be provided from other more substantial sources, such as combating tax evasion and dedicated European funds, not from teachers' salaries, school equipment, or the modernization of educational infrastructure.
