Nicusor Dan: We need to rapidly grow the defense industry in Europe

The current security context in Europe requires rapid development of the defense industry, and Romanian-German economic cooperation is welcome in this area, said President Nicusor Dan at a conference held in Bucharest. The head of state mentioned the investment in the powder factory in Brasov County and emphasized that Romania has the experience, technology, and funds necessary to continue these actions.
Oana Bala reports: "Germany is the main foreign investor in Romania, and 235.000 Romanians are employed by German companies, said President Nicusor Dan, who also pointed out that in the current security context in Europe, there is a need for rapid growth in the defense industry, which may represent an opportunity for Romanian-German economic cooperation.
Nicusor Dan: We need to rapidly grow the defense industry in Europe, and this need may represent an opportunity for our economy and for cooperation between Romania and Germany. The example of Rheinmetall, the powder factory, is an investment, but this investment will require local supply chains and will lead to a transfer of technology and know-how to the Romanian market, so we are not talking about relocation, we are talking about jointly building capabilities, and I believe that Romania has all the data to become a hub of innovation and production in the defense industry in Southeast Europe.
The defense industry requires more and more technology, the head of state added, noting that Romania is doing quite well in this regard, which, in his opinion, could lead to the revitalization of the industry."
