The enlargement of the European Union in Moldova, Ukraine, and the Western Balkans is an investment in security, said President Nicusor Dan on Friday at the high-level conference "Cohesion 2027+", held in Bucharest.
The multiannual financial framework talks a lot about research, development, and innovation, said President Nicusor Dan, who pointed out that the European economy needs to progress in each of the member countries in order to avoid the risk of disparities.
On the other hand, Nicusor Dan mentioned that Romania will support the enlargement of the European Union.
Nicusor Dan: The enlargement of the European Union to Moldova, Ukraine, and the Western Balkans is not an act of charity, it is an investment in security. All these countries need to align themselves with the standards defined by the Union. Romania is a strong supporter of those countries that have the will and desire, especially the Republic of Moldova, to join the European Union.
The Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Roxana Minzatu, pointed out that in the 18 years since accession, Romania has benefited from funds through the cohesion policy, in which context she stressed the importance of this policy for the European Union.
The new multiannual framework must be extremely well connected to the realities of Romania and there must be a very strong connection with the business, academic, and administrative environments, said Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare.
