Negotiations continue at Cotroceni Palace on the fiscal measures package

Discussions are resuming at Cotroceni Palace on the measures to be included in the future government's program to reduce the budget deficit.
Experts from the PSD, PNL, USR, and UDMR parties have come up with a long list of proposals, but the final decision will be announced on Monday evening, after the head of state holds talks with the leaders of the four pro-European parties.
In order to reduce the deficit to at least 7.5 percent of GDP, the state needs to find 30 billion lei - either by reducing public sector spending, by increasing taxes and duties, or by a combination of both.
Proposals include increasing VAT on certain products, progressive taxation of high incomes, increasing excise duties, or reducing and eliminating bonuses in the public sector.
However, nothing is set in stone yet, and all this info in the press is just working hypotheses, said President Nicusor Dan.
