Foreign Minister Oana Toiu announced in a Facebook post that Romania is coordinating with EU states for a joint statement at the UN on the situation in Venezuela and stressed that Romania has not recognized Nicolas Maduro as the legitimate president.
According to the minister, the priority is to protect Romanian citizens and the community with Romanian roots, with a joint information and consular assistance mechanism activated at European level.
Romania calls for restraint and responsibility on the part of the authorities in Caracas and supports swift action to restore democracy in Venezuela and combat drug trafficking and organized crime.
