In a statement issued by the Supreme Court, Alina Corbu expresses concern about the danger of turning judges into enemies of the people, in the context of discussions about the high level of benefits for magistrates.
She asks Romanians to consider that for each of them, whether employed by the state or the private sector, managers or workers, rich or poor, the judge is the last line of defense when a citizen faces a situation of abuse in which their rights are violated.
President Nicusor Dan has signed the decrees dismissing 73 judges and prosecutors who had submitted retirement requests after the government announced that it was preparing a law to increase the retirement age and reduce magistrates' pensions.
Alina Corbu was born on August 6, 1972, in Giurcani, Gagesti, Vaslui County.
Between 1998 and 2000, she worked as a judge at the Murgeni Court, between 2000 and 2002 at the Bucharest Sector 1 Court, and between 2002 and 2005 at the Bucharest Tribunal.
She became president of the High Court of Cassation and Justice in September 2019.
