Rodica Stanoiu was exhumed on Monday, after prosecutors opened a suspicious death case in the case of the former justice minister.
The body was taken to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine, where forensic doctors will perform an autopsy to clarify whether the former minister was assaulted or whether her advanced age led to involuntary falls - judicial sources specified.
The prosecutor's office attached to the Ilfov Court took action after information about the circumstances of her death appeared in the press.
Just a few days before her death, Rodica Stanoiu was admitted to the "Obregia" Hospital in Bucharest, with signs of blows to the head and eye area - the central press wrote.
The doctors did not notify the police. She was reportedly discharged under the signature of her lover, a man 50 years her junior.
Rodica Stanoiu reportedly left behind a considerable fortune, including bank accounts, jewelry, and properties, such as a villa in Pipera, another villa with a swimming pool on the coast, and assets abroad.
Her partner was recently caught by the press leaving a notary office in Bucharest with a thick file in his hand.
