Approximately 400.000 14.5 caliber cartridges, worth approximately €5 million, ready for delivery, were stored in the hall of the Cugir Mechanical Plant, where a fire broke out last night, according to initial data published by the Alba County Police Inspectorate.
Representatives of the Cugir factory estimated that approximately 130.000 cartridges were destroyed, with a real possibility that the rest of the ammunition was also compromised.
Specialists from the National Institute of Forensic Science of the Romanian Police General Inspectorate traveled to Cugir to assist in the on-site investigation.
Investigations are continuing under the supervision of the Alba Iulia District Court Prosecutor's Office for the crime of destruction through negligence, according to the Alba County Police Inspectorate.
