Romania has an urgent need to clarify how magistrates retire, more specifically, the retirement age and the value of pensions, said Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. At a press conference at Victoria Palace, he pointed out that if the government does not resolve this situation, Romania will lose over €2 billion, money that is being blocked by the European Commission. The head of the executive also said that resolving the issue of special pensions is also a matter of social equity. We are now live with RRA editor Andrei Serban, who followed the prime minister's conference.
Reporter: Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan announced proposals to change the conditions under which magistrates can retire.
The proposals are as follows: the retirement age will be increased to 65, which is the current age for everyone.
The way in which pensions are calculated will also be changed. They will be 55% of the net salary for the last 5 years, but no more than 70% of the net value of the last salary in the last month worked.
In the coming period, the governing coalition will also determine how these changes will be adopted, possibly by the government taking responsibility in Parliament.
The Prime Minister also announced that by the end of today, the Government will send the European Commission proposals on the development of the defense industry, regarding a line of financing to which 20 other countries will also apply.
The executive will send the list of areas and projects it wishes to support with money from this European financial component.
Ilie Bolojan specified that the projects mainly concern the defense industry and major road infrastructure, such as highways, which are strategic investments, but also logistical connections with European Union countries.
