Health Minister on the staffing crisis: We can't continue like this

Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete draws attention to the staffing shortage that persists in the Romanian healthcare system.
He highlighted the need for measures aimed at motivating doctors to stay in the country, by offering attractive working conditions and a solid professional perspective.
Alexandru Rogobete: Of course, in any healthcare unit and in the entire healthcare system there is a problem with human resources. In many departments, it is undersized. It is incorrectly distributed at national level. There are hospitals that are overcrowded and hospitals where the patient does not even make it to the emergency room, is put in an ambulance and transferred to a higher hospital. However, this cannot continue, and the emergency ordinance that is publicly available on the Ministry of Health website comes to regulate this situation. The number of colleagues leaving Romania has decreased in the last four years and we are still on a downward slope. Basically, not as many are leaving as in 2018, that was the highest point. I think that the investments that have been happening in the last four years in healthcare facilities, the fact that equipment is being purchased, that the appearance of the healthcare system is changing in many places, are determining them not to leave and to stay, because this time they have something to work with in public hospitals in Romania.
