The National Museum of Romanian History is marking Romania's National Day with a series of special events for the public on Monday, December 1. Visitors will have free admission and will be able to enjoy both exceptional exhibitions and a recital of Romanian music.
For the first time, the museum presents the album "Alba Iulia, December 1, 1918. Unpublished aspects of the great popular assembly", created by the photographer of the Union, Samoila Marza. This document of remarkable historical value includes 20 photographs, among which are the only images captured at the Great National Assembly in Alba Iulia.
The album, created in 1966, when Marza was 80 years old, was designed to be given to the officials of the time. On the first page is the inscription: "From a participant in the Act of Union, Samoila Marza, who took these photographs. July 14, 1966."
Of the five photographs taken on the day of the Union, three capture moments from the assembly on Union Field, one shows Bishop Iuliu Hossu reading the declaration of union, and another shows Aurel Vlad delivering a speech.
The rest of the images document moments before and after December 1, 1918, such as the delegation from the village of Galtiu, the Romanian army's entry into Alba Iulia, and the reception of General Henri Berthelot at the train station.
The special program for the day also includes the recital "Graiul dulce romanesc" (The Sweet Romanian Language), performed by the Artpulse Association at 12 noon in the Lapidarium Hall.
The concert highlights Romanian music and literature, bringing together pieces by composers such as George Enescu, Tiberiu Brediceanu, Gheorghe Dima, Eugen Doga, Sabin Pautza, and many others.
Throughout the day, the public will also be able to visit the museum's permanent and temporary exhibitions, including: The Historical Treasure, The Copy of Trajan's Column, Masterpieces from the MNIR Heritage, Lapidarium, ...at Hand, The World of the Romanian Lottery: from Business to Charity (1837-1989), Ion Dumitrana. Model Maker and Engraver, Conservation-Restoration of Paintings from the MNIR Collection, and the National Exhibition of Scientific Posters "Conservation – Restoration – Investigations."
The museum will be open according to its regular schedule, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with free admission throughout the day.
