The members of the Supreme Council of National Defence will meet on Wednesday at the Cotroceni Palace, under the chairmanship of President Klaus Iohannis, for the first meeting of the year.

The security situation in the Black Sea and the military build-up programme are on the agenda.

Members of the Supreme Council of National Defence will discuss the implications for Romania of the deteriorating security situation in the Black Sea region in the context of Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

Progress in defence planning is another topic on the agenda, with particular focus on the implementation of the armament programmes, efforts to increase manning levels and the retention of military personnel.

The Council's activity report for 2023 will also be presented, as well as that of the Cyber Security Operational Council.

There have recently been cyber attacks on several hospitals in the country, and the government is working with a European centre on a cybersecurity guide for IT administrators in the public system.
