Establishment of the National Agency for Policies and Coordination in the Field of Drugs and Addictions

Deputies unanimously approved the emergency ordinance on the establishment of the National Agency for Policies and Coordination in the Field of Drugs and Addictions.

Catalin Purcaru attended the debates and reports: "Basically, since March, the institution has taken over the responsibility of the National Anti-Drug Agency in the fight against drug use and operates under the Prime Minister's Chancellery. Assistance in centers for addicts is coordinated by the Ministry of Health, and the area of ​​public policies is the responsibility of the government. During the debates, PNL deputy Raluca Turcan drew attention to the fact that the agency must be properly financed.

Raluca Turcan: We have a huge backlog in recovery centers. Why haven't they been built and no steps have been taken to create treatment centers for people who are victims of drug addiction or gambling?

UDMR deputy Vass Levente stated that additional financing is needed for addictions and mental health centers, including from the private sector.

Vass Levente: We need financing from the European Union, from the Government, but also from private investors. It is very important. I ask investors to create addiction centers, mental health centers within private hospitals.

The normative act will be sent to the President of Romania for promulgation.”
