Next week, the PSD, PNL, USR, and UDMR are expected to resume negotiations for forming the government and drafting the fiscal-budgetary measures plan, given that the current executive's interim term expires on June 20, and on the same date, the authorities in Bucharest must present a credible plan to reduce the budget deficit to the European Commission. Meanwhile, tomorrow morning, President Nicusor Dan is scheduled to meet with trade unions at the Cotroceni Palace to discuss fiscal reform.
Reporter: President Nicusor Dan recently stated that the technical teams had discussed for 50 hours and managed to review 60-80 possible measures to reduce the budget deficit, and that there is agreement between the technical representatives of the parties on some of these measures.
The head of state said he was confident that he would come up with a proposal for prime minister as soon as possible.
Therefore, the name of the future prime minister could be known next week, as Romania urgently needs a person with authority who will take on the unpopular but necessary measures to correct the deficit, said Senate President and PNL leader Ilie Bolojan.
The country's financial situation is very difficult, and the budget deficit reached its highest level last year, 9.3% of GDP, said Ilie Bolojan, who added that no government will be able to avoid raising taxes.
The PSD also believes that it is more necessary than ever for the parties involved in the negotiations to abandon their confrontational approaches and adopt a constructive attitude in order to finalize the package of fiscal and budgetary measures.
USR leader Dominic Fritz said that all pro-European parties must accept the idea that the Romanian state needs to slim down and thus drastically cut spending.
The UDMR leader pointed out that taxation is an area where discussions are still ongoing and solutions are being sought.
