Articol de Radio România, 18 Noiembrie 2018, 23:16

Prestigious orchestras belonging to leading broadcasting companies, internationally renowned soloists and conductors will perform in Bucharest on 18-25 November, for the 4th edition of RadiRo – the only festival dedicated to radio orchestras in Europe and across the world, an event produced and organized by Radio Romania.

Eight symphony concerts will take place at the Romanian Radio Hall and, a premiere at the current edition, four jazz concerts are scheduled at the MNAR Auditorium Hall (Romanian National Museum of Art).

Organized every two years (so as to alternate with the George Enescu International Festival) since 2012, RadiRo has brought in front of the Romanian audience leading radio orchestras from Europe and Asia.

Liliana Staicu, Director Romanian Radio Orchestras and Choirs:The 4th RadiRo – The International Festival of Radio Orchestras, an event produced and organized by Radio Romania – has a symbolic significance this year, since it is dedicated both to Radio Romania’s 90th anniversary as well as to the Centenary of Romania’s Great Union. The orchestras invited to perform at RadiRo 2018 represent prestigious broadcasters in Europe: they will feature attractive programs, renowned soloists and conductors, contributing to the growing reputation of the festival!”

The 4th RadiRo Festival will bring to Bucharest European prestigious orchestras, which belong to some of the leading European broadcasting companies: BBC Philharmonic Orchestra (UK), MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra, RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, alongside the host of the event, the Romanian Radio National Orchestra.

Internationally acclaimed conductors and soloists will perform at RadiRo 2018: conductors Vladimir Ashkenazy and Nathalie Stutzmann, pianists Mihai Ritivoiu – winner of the George Enescu International Competition, David Fray and Javier Perianes, cellist Andrei Ioniță – a star of the new generation, winner of the Grand Prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition (Moscow).

Jazz series will be performed by radio big bands from Denmark, Croatia and Romania. Top guest musician of the jazz concerts series will be Aura Urziceanu, who will return to Romania especially for this event, to perform with the Romanian Radio Big Band.

Aurea Urziceanu's career is a diverse mix of musical genres: from pop to folklore, from classical to jazz music, including concerts and television shows. She has been on tours in the USA, Brazil, Japan, Australia and Europe, performing concerts with great American musicians and instrumentalists such as Duke Ellington, Quincy Jones, Thiz Jones & Mel Lewis Orchestra, Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, Horace Silver, Clark Terry, Stan Gets. The Big Band Radio is currently run by Ionel Tudor, highly acclaimed and award-winning composer and conductor.

On Thursday, November 22 (19:00), the Croatian Radio-television Jazz Orchestra, one of the oldest big bands in the world, will perform at Auditorium Hall - MNAR. In addition to participating in numerous public concerts and independent programs in Croatia and abroad, the band has its own concert season, since 2000, which is broadcast on HRT’s 3rd Channel.

Jazz lovers will appreciate Miron Hauser as a trombone soloist, conductor and composer. Since 2011, he has been a permanent member of the Croatian Radio-television Jazz Orchestra and of the Jazzistra Orchestra. His music project "Tu fragrancia" was presented in Croatia, Italy (Muggia Jazz Festival) and Slovenia, in collaboration with the Big Band of the Slovenian Radio-television.

On Friday, November 23 (19:00), Danish Radio Big Band will meet the jazz audience in Romania! Marilyn Mazur, Danish percussionist born in New York City, and Danish Radio Big Band, awarded the Grammy Awards, perform for the first time together, offering a fascinating rhythm and sound avalanche under the baton of Japanese conductor Miho Hazama.

Composer and percussionist Marilyn Mazur is famous both in her native country and in the world of jazz. She has performed with Miles Davis, Jan Garbarek and Wayne Shorter, and in Denmark she is appreciated for her long collaboration with jazz legends such as NHØP and Palle Mikkelborg. As a special feature in the program, the band made a selection of Marilyn Mazur's most acclaimed compositions for the big band, convincing her to write a special piece for this concert.

Born in Tokyo, Miho Hazama is one of the very talented young pianists who are working on the New York music scene today. Miho has 2 albums released by Universal Music Japan / Sunnyside Records, highly rated by both critics and the audience. Composition remains her true vocation, and besides her evolution in m_unit, the band of her debut, she composed works for other ensembles such as the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Nobuya Sugawa, Ashley Bouder Ballet Company and Yamaha Symphonic Band. She is associate director of New York Jazzharmonic.

All concerts performed during RadiRo Festival will be broadcast live by Radio Romania, recorded and broadcast later by the Romanian Television. Concerts will be taken over and broadcast by the radio members of the European Broadcasting Union.
