President Klaus Iohannis has welcomed Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace on Friday, and has symbolically taken over Presidency of the EU Council. Visit to Bucharest of the Austrian Chancellor takes place in the framework of Romania's preparation to take over, from Austria, the six-months rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union, starting with January 2019.

Austria is a good and serious partner, Iohannis said, referring to the very good institutional coordination and to the support Austria has offered to ensure an efficient transition of the EU Council Presidency.

Head of Romanian State welcomed Austria's results with regard to EU important dossiers and specified that Britain's withdrawal should be done in an orderly manner. Future budget of the Union must also be balanced and fair, he said.

In turn, Austrian Chancellor thanked President Klaus Iohannis for taking care of democracy and the rule of law.
