Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan was summoned to appear before Parliament today at 4 p.m. to explain the United States' decision to withdraw some of its troops stationed in Romania.
The request came from the PSD parliamentary group.
Reporter: PSD representatives asked Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan to explain the impact of the decision to partially withdraw American forces stationed on Romanian territory.
"We need to know what situation we are in and what the strategy is for strengthening the country's security", said PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu.
Sorin Grindeanu: We are, after all, a country on the border of a conflict, with the longest border with Ukraine of any European Union member state. Both I and we, the Romanian people, are interested in what the plans are.
Bolojan: security guarantees are not affected
In a televised address, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stressed that NATO allies' military bases remain active and security guarantees are not affected.
In the short term, negotiations must be finalized to access European funds from the SAFE mechanism to increase national defense capabilities, the prime minister added.
Ilie Bolojan: A Supreme Council for National Defense meeting will be convened to approve our equipment plans, which we will present to the European Commission, so that we can do our part to ensure that all NATO plans that remain in place are operational in the coming years.
AUR parliamentarians also requested Ilie Bolojan's participation in the "Prime Minister's Hour" political debate to present measures to prepare the population for the cold season, in the context of rising energy prices, as well as the Government's vision for the 2026 State Budget Law.
