Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan continues discussions with mayors in the Moldavia region on local public administration reform and measures to reduce spending by 10%, a project for which the Government will assume responsibility in Parliament.
Another important topic of discussion is the 2026 state budget law, which will be adopted in early February.
The mayors of Iasi and Botosani presented to the prime minister the problems they face in relation to district heating, infrastructure, and health.
In addition, the mayors wanted to know from Ilie Bolojan how much money they will have available to ensure the development of local communities and said that greater decision-making power is needed at the local level.
The mayor of Botosani, Cosmin Andrei: The decision transferred to local authorities, greater decision-making power and financial leeway, so that more money remains with local authorities, because we know best what the city's needs are. We have submitted a suggestion regarding financial allocations, with greater support for those who have been left behind, and the municipality of Botosani County is lagging behind other counties and municipalities in the country due to its geographical location and the conflict we have at the border.
At Friday's meeting with the prime minister, PSD mayors refused to participate, arguing that they did not want to legitimize austerity and endorse cuts in the administration.
In both Iasi and Botosani, the head of the executive was met with protests against the austerity measures imposed by the government, according to RRA correspondents.
