Ilie Bolojan: Romania will approve new financial and military support for Ukraine

Romania will probably approve next week, together with the other European countries, new financial and military support for Ukraine, interim President Ilie Bolojan has announced.

In his first press conference since taking office, he presented the conclusions of consultations he held with parliamentary parties on Wednesday.

Ilie Bolojan: We are unanimous that we all want this conflict to end. We all want peace on the border, but apart from the different approaches, there is a parliamentary majority that supports, both from Romania and from Europe, the granting of support to Ukraine during this period of conflict, financial support, military support, as will be decided very probably next week. There is a majority in favor of having a representative of Europe in these negotiations, and we think that is a good thing, and these have been the main directions related to the war in Ukraine, Russia's war of aggression.

The acting president also said that there is an agreement among all political parties to increase defense spending. Part of the additional funds would be directed to the development of transportation infrastructure.

Increased defense spending would be taken out of the budget deficit calculation.
