Chay Bowes, an Irish collaborator of the Russian television programme Russia Today, was detained on Thursday evening on entry to Romania and deported, the editor-in-chief of the publication, Margarita Simonian, said on a social networking site.
The General Inspectorate of the Border Police said in a statement sent on Friday morning at the request of the press that on Thursday evening at around 19:00, an Irish citizen travelling to Dublin was identified at Henri Coanda Airport and banned from entering Romania. He was informed of the situation and was given a form concerning the measure, the reason for it and how to legally challenge it.
He then bought a plane ticket to Istanbul and travelled in that direction, the statement added. Russia Today is a Kremlin propaganda channel banned in the European Union. Chay Bowes is known for promoting numerous false narratives of Russian propaganda, especially on the war in Ukraine and the European Union.
