Klaus Iohannis: NATO and the EU have shared visions and interests

NATO and the European Union have shared visions and interests, they are complementary organizations and they must go on together.
This is one of the ideas expressed by the Romanian President Klaus Iohannis after the official talks he has had today in Bucharest with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
President Iohannis discussed with NATO Secretary General about the Alliance's next summit in 2018 in Brussels, and found that their assessments and visions coincided in the sense that the progress that has already been made had to be consolidated.
The two also spoke of significant progress regarding the advanced presence of NATO in Romania and in the region.
The Head of State reminded that this year, Romania has participated with an important contingent in NATO exercises and stated that Romania wants to maintain the sustained pace of the joint exercises.
He also said that cross-presence with Poland on the Eastern flank of the Alliance is a concrete example of cohesion, but also that NATO and the European Union have common goals and interests, are complementary and have to go on together.
Romania is an influential and reliable ally, NATO Secretary General stressed, mentioning that Romania is essential for the Alliance's ballistic defense, but also for the missions in Kosovo and Afghanistan.
