EU rejects idea of renegotiating Brexit agreement

Presidents of EU Council and European Parliament, Donald Tusk and Antonio Tajani, reject the idea of renegotiating agreement on UK exit from the European Union. The two responded to UK Prime Minister Theresa May's announcement that she wants to reopen the negotiations.

RRA Correspondent in Brussels, Amalia Bojescu: EU Council President Donald Tusk says the agreement on separating Britain from the European Union was not done to be renegotiated. According to a spokesperson for the European official, withdrawal agreement is and remains the best and only way to ensure exit of Britain from the EU. European Union urges British government to clarify its intentions regarding the next steps as soon as possible, but the leaders say the withdrawal agreement is not open to renegotiation. If UK's intentions on the future partnership are to evolve, European Union will be ready to reconsider its offer and adjust the content and level of ambition of the political declaration, while respecting the established principles - statement of the European official says.

Similar message came also from European Parliament President Antonio Tajani, who says the 27 EU Member States are united in terms of Brexit, and the agreement will not be renegotiated, given that the document has already been agreed by EU Member States. European Union will continue preparations for all the results, including a scenario without an agreement, but also the ratification process of the document.
