Over 98% of the full-time teachers have remained in the same schools, and the others will establish their norms from other educational units in the 2025-2026 school year, informs the Ministry of Education. Next week, the norms for substitutes will be distributed and subsequently the number of hours available for hourly payment. The increase in the teaching norm, but also the low rate for hourly payment, represent two of the dissatisfactions of the teachers who protested again on Friday, for the 16th day, in front of the Ministry of Education in the capital.
RRA reporter Felicia Mocanu reports: "One of the most controversial measures of Law 141 concerns the teaching hours of pre-university teachers, which will increase from 18 to 20 hours per week in the 2025-2026 school year. Increasing the teaching hours will mean loading the schedules of full-time teachers.
-: Students will lose the most. We are not just fighting for ourselves, but our children no longer have a chance at a quality education.
According to the law, the maximum number of students in a class will increase, with the number of students being increased by up to six students compared to the previous limits. Thus, in middle school there will be up to 28 students per class, in high school up to 30, and in primary education there will be up to 24 students in a class. This increase will also affect the quality of education in special schools, where students with various disabilities study, teachers say.
-: I work at the Moldova Special High School in Targu Frumos, where blind children are educated. In special education, we work one-on-one. What does it mean to have two blind children in a class that was already very difficult to work with? What does it mean to take care of each student individually? A situation from which I don't know how we will get out if the provisions of Law 141 are not repealed.
The education unions have announced that the teachers' protests in front of the Ministry of Education will continue next week.
