PNL backs Nicusor Dan in the second round of the presidential elections

An announcement of support for independent candidate Nicusor Dan in the second round of the 18 May presidential elections has been strongly expressed by UDMR and PNL. PNL interim president Catalin Predoiu said the decision was part of a political strategy to ensure a pro-European and stable future for Romania.
Reporter: The interim president of the PNL, Catalin Predoiu, has announced that his party will support Nicusor Dan in the second round of the presidential elections in order to avoid the danger of extremist forces.
The second decision taken by the liberal leadership was not to quit the government, because both ministers and party MPs have sworn to serve the interests of Romanians, said interim leader Catalin Predoiu.
Catalin Predoiu: The National Liberal Party, through its ministers, through its MPs, will do its duty towards Romanians. I don't want to comment on what PSD is doing. We are not referring to the PSD, we are referring strictly to what I have told you, namely to the interests that Romanians have in continuing to benefit from the management of public affairs, the management of legislative affairs, and we will continue to do our duty. When it comes to voting for a full government, we will take our position then.
