The Permanent Electoral Authority informs voters that state institutions continue to be the target of disinformation and public manipulation campaigns even after the end of the electoral process. The PEA urges citizens to obtain accurate information only from official sources.
These activities are intended to undermine citizens' confidence in the stability and proper functioning of the authorities, the PEA said in a statement.
Campaigns that often promote propaganda against NATO and the EU or against the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine are aimed at influencing public opinion in Romania by inciting hatred or generating negative emotions.
By systematically and massively spreading fake news, especially through social media, the goal is to create mistrust and division in society.
At the same time, the PEA urges voters to obtain accurate information only from official sources, in order to protect themselves and form an objective opinion on the activities carried out by Romanian state institutions, which are fully committed to fulfilling their mission as provided by law.
The Romanian authorities are prepared and will continue to systematically combat this fake news and disinformation.
