Law permitting the shooting down of drones debated in Senate

Senators in the Judiciary Committee resume debates next week on the May presidential elections emergency ordinance.

The discussions were postponed due to the large number of amendments tabled.

Also up for debate in the Senate is a draft law allowing the shooting down of drones that illegally enter national airspace. The bill was adopted by the Chamber of Deputies without amendments.

The shooting down of drones that illegally enter the national airspace is a necessary measure in the context of the major risks in Romania's border area to the life and health of residents, their property and infrastructure, the explanatory memorandum of the draft law said.

PNL MEP Alina Gorghiu: The Romanian Army's ability to react depends on the urgent adoption of these necessary measures so that it can prevent and deter security risks and threats, without the need to establish or declare an exceptional state.

The opposition disagreed with this legislation.

The Senate will also discuss the ordinance on this year's presidential elections. The debate was postponed due to the large number of amendments tabled by all parliamentary parties.

From the opposition, USR Senator Simona Spataru pointed out that it was not right that the closing time of the polls abroad should be the Romanian time and not the local time in the diaspora.

Simona Spataru: It does not seem normal to us to keep the local time in the country in which any Romanian citizen casts his vote, not to be hindered by the time zone in Romania. Moreover, the government has not even been able to present any justification for this change, which has not happened for 35 years. On the other hand, the Chamber of Deputies will discuss next week the draft law on the digitalization of the notary system, already adopted by the Senate.
