Thanks to Romanian and European support, the Republic of Moldova has managed to end its dependence on Russian gas, said Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu during a visit to Bucharest.
Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, in turn, indicated that joint projects between the two sides of the Prut River will be further developed.
Romania has been, is, and will remain the strategic partner and most important supporter of the Republic of Moldova, said Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, adding that the dialogue between the authorities in Bucharest and Chisinau will be dynamic, in order to continue joint projects and develop new ones.
Ilie Bolojan: There are many areas and projects where we are working very closely together, such as the interconnection of our energy and transport infrastructures, like the Suceava-Balti power line, the rehabilitation and electrification of the Iasi-Ungheni railway connection, and the construction of the Ungheni bridge, which will be connected to the A8 motorway and will be the first bridge over the Prut River built in the last 60 years.
The head of the Chisinau executive, Alexandru Munteanu, spoke about the determination of state institutions, civil society, and Moldovan citizens to follow a European path, noting that Romania's support is found both diplomatically, in the capitals of the world, and in joint projects.
Alexandru Munteanu: We are talking about new interconnection projects with Romania and Ukraine, which will increase regional connectivity. Thanks to Romanian and European support, Moldova has managed in recent years to become less dependent on Russian gas, transforming itself from a vulnerable consumer into an active and key regional partner.
