Bucharest General Mayor, Sorin Oprescu, asks the parliament that the taxi law draft, which will be debated in a few days, to ban the authorized taxi drivers in Ilfov to practice the profession in Bucharest.

The old project contained a provision through which up to 1,600 taxi drivers from Ilfov could do their work in the capital.

The Mayor considers that it is not normal since they are already 8,500 licensed taxi in Bucharest.

"I send a notification both to the supervisory bodies and the legislature on abuses and imperative demand while permitting authorities, mayors and local councils, to verify the number of licenses issued and enter in legally.

"First, I would like that the new taxi law to take account of the reality of the street and not be drawn at the order of the owners of taxi companies through various interest groups," said Oprescu.

The General Mayor also requests that this bill to require taxi companies to hire drivers with book work and their working hours to be no more than 8 hours.
