Combating anti-Semitism and the need to protect Jewish communities in Europe have been debated today in Brussels at a conference organized by Romania in the context of its current Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Conference was opened by Premier Viorica Dăncilă.

RRA Correspondent in Brussels Amalia Bojescu: Conference - entitled "Fight Against anti-Semitism, a Common Approach for Better Protection of Jewish Communities in Europe, from Policies to Action", organized by Romania - brought together representatives of Jewish communities from across Europe and the United States. It was reaffirmed Romania's commitment and its active role in combating the phenomenon of anti-Semitism at international level, by developing effective instruments for prevention of hate speech and crimes. Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă said that according to surveys, anti-Semitism is a growing phenomenon in European societies.

Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă: I believe that promoting exchange of views, constant consultation with Jewish communities and their involvement in measures to combat anti-Semitism are absolutely necessary. Events such as this one are important in meeting the objective of combating discrimination and extremist discourse and in ensuring that tragedies such as the Holocaust are not repeated.

RRA Correspondent: Romanian Prime Minister also said that Romania has become a regional model in combating anti-Semitism and xenophobia, but also in terms of education and measures to preserve the memory of the Holocaust. It is for the second time that Premier Viorica Dăncilă has meetings with representatives of the Jewish communities in Europe in Brussels, where the Head of the Romanian Government has reaffirmed that the themes of combating anti-Semitism and keeping the memory of the Holocaust are priorities for Romania’s EU Council Presidency.
