The Prime Minister, Emil Boc, announced that the Government might take responsibility in Parliament for the changes in Labour Code.

He specified that the final decision would be taken after coalition parties and the Government debated on the subject.

Before the meeting with trade unions and employers’ associations, which took place yesterday, the leader of Executive stated that the final version of the Labour Code would be discussed at the meeting, and subsequently sent to Parliament.

‘We have proposed a version which contains the essence of labour contract and its organisation in special legislation. The Labour Code would have to contain a general provision concerning this organization and the debate would go on when normative documents are completed’, Emil Boc stated.

At the beginning of the meeting, the trade unions showed their dissatisfactions concerning the single collective contract at national level, which the Government intends to remove from legislation, and the trade unions warned that they would organise protests on Monday.

According to the România Actualităţi editor, Angela Bârgoan, the Cartel Alfa leader, Bogdan Hossu, left the room after 30 minutes, being extremely dissatisfied by the Prime Minister’s announcement concerning the possibility of the Government to take responsibility for the Labour Code in Parliament.

In his opinion, it is not normal for the Prime Minister to make such an announcement, considering that one hour later the Government representatives were supposed to meet the representatives of trade unions and employers’ associations.

According to the statements given so far, the meeting was supposed to be a decisive one.

On one hand, the PDL empowered the Prime Minister and the Minister of Labour to finish the debates on Labour Code by the end of this week, and on the other hand the trade unions have already announced that they would decide the schedule of protests on Monday, if the final version of the Labour Code affected unfavorably the employees.
