EU enlargement policy, especially to the Western Balkans, increasing internal and external efficiency and security are some of the priorities of Romania's EU Council Presidency that have been presented by Foreign Minister Teodor Meleșcanu at the Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels. Romania will also attach special importance to combating disinformation.

Discussions on disinformation were the first of the kind at the level of EU foreign ministers. It is a phenomenon that is increasingly concerning the European Union, especially in the context of the May 2019 European Elections.

During its EU Council Presidency, Romania has set out to develop a roadmap with concrete measures so that the fight against disinformation can be achieved - said Head of Romanian Diplomacy, Teodor Meleșcanu, who added that both EU means and financial resources must be established in view of such a strategy.

Teodor Meleșcanu: A decision has been taken, setting of a task force that can function and be able to react very quickly to disinformation. What we insist on is to find very clearly the means to finance these activities. That is our concern at the moment. To establish very clear who is doing what, who takes responsibility, so that the European Union is one of the world leaders in combating disinformation.

RRA Producer: Disinformation and hybrid war will be on the agenda of a meeting that Romania will organize in the second part of its EU Council Presidency mandate, as Minister Teodor Meleșcanu said.

Steps are also being made so that Brussels hosts a ministerial meeting on the Eastern Partnership, for which Romania wants to prepare a political statement.
