Violonist Alexandru Tomescu opens new season of Romanian Radio Hall

Romanian Radio Hall - largest symphonic concert hall in Romania, with the largest organ in Southeastern Europe - reopens 2018-2019 concert season on Friday, October 5 (19:00).

Romanian Radio Hall - largest symphonic concert hall in Romania, with the largest organ in Southeastern Europe - reopens 2018-2019 concert season on Friday, October 5 (19:00), with a concert of violinist Alexandru Tomescu and the National Radio Orchestra (conducted by Nicolae Moldoveanu), performing Concerto in D major Op.35 for violin and orchestra of Erich Wolfgang Korngold.

Considered one of the founders of film music, student of composers Gustav Mahler and Alexander von Zemlinski, Korngold composed music for 16 films from Hollywood and received two Academy Awards. In 1935 he signed a contract with Warner Bros, and created the first original soundtrack for Captain Blood, which made his claim as one of the world's first Hollywood composers.

In the second part of the evening, audience will listen to the Symphony no.5 by Gustav Mahler.

On Wednesday, October 10 (19:00), Radio Chamber Orchestra will also start season with a concert performed under the baton of the young Romanian conductor Vlad Vizireanu, who is already enjoying an international career. Evening program will include Mozart's Violin Concerto no.5 in A major, Requiem in C Minor of Luigi Cherubini, and Musique pour Radio, an overture for small orchestra of Romanian composer Filip Lazăr.

Event will take place with the participation of violinist Cristina Anghelescu, soloist of the Romanian Radio Orchestras and Choirs, and of Radio Academic Choir(conductor: Ciprian Ţuţu).

Nicolae Moldoveanu - Violinist, organist and well-known conductor, Romanian musician well known in the international artistic world. He studied in highly appreciated European Higher Education Institutions -Leipzig Conservatory (organ), Conservatory of Zürich (conducting art), Basel and Berne conservatories and Royal Academy of Music in London. Important orchestras he conducted over the years include Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in Liverpool, Dutch Radio Orchestra, BBC Concert, BBC Philharmonic, Philharmonic Orchestras of Malaysia and Warsaw, Chamber Orchestras in Stockholm and Scotland, Symphonic Orchestras in Iceland and Birmingham, Radio Symphonic Orchestra in Prague, George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra, with special collaborations with English Sinfonia and London Mozart Players.

Alexandru Tomescu - One of the most appreciated Romanian violinists, enjoys the privilege of interpreting, starting from 2007, heritage Stradivarius violin Elder - Voicu, and became protagonist of several major musical projects under the Stradivarius Tournament. He performed under the baton of important conductors, including Kurt Masur and Valery Gergiev, along with pianists like Valentina Lisitsa and Eduard Kunz, in halls such as Berliner Philharmoniker, Carnegie Hall, Concertgebouw, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. He has recorded for Romanian radio and television stations, but also for radio and TV stations from England, France, Switzerland, Germany, Holland, Poland, USA and has numerous CD records.

Vlad Vizireanu made his debut with the London Symphony Orchestra at Barbican Hall, being one of the three finalists of the Donatella Flick LSO International Conducting Competition - London (2016). He won the 2nd Prize at the Cadaqués Orchestra International Conducting Competition (Spain), where he conducted a televised concert alongside the Cadaqués Symphony in L'Auditori Hall, Barcelona. In the autumn of 2013, he made his debut at the George Enescu International Festival, where he directed an orchestra made up of Pittsburg Symphony and Royal Camerata members, and at the 2015 edition he directed the Royal Camerata having as a soloist violinist Rebekka Hartmann. He has been invited to attend the 2019 edition of the George Enescu International Festival, where he will lead the National Orchestra of Lille. He is currently the music director of the North Shore Symphony Orchestra, Long Island (New York) and assistant conductor of the Thousand Oaks Philharmonic.

Romanian Radio Hall new season is an anniversary one and will be marked by three special events: celebration of the 90th anniversary since the establishment of Radio Romania (1 November) – and also 90 years of activity of the National Radio Orchestra, Romanian Great Union Centenary (1 December) and RadiRo, International Festival of Radio Orchestras, this year at its 4th edition (18-25 November).
