Venice Commission to be notified for "election of mayors in two rounds"

Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will officially notify the Venice Commission about the fact that the Romanian Liberal Government changed the electoral law just four months before the election.

Decision was taken by 26 votes in favor and three against. Monitoring Committee considers Orban Cabinet's decision as "abuse of power".

Announcement was made by PSD Senator Titus Corlăţean, who underlined, in the Monitoring Committee, that this procedure flagrantly violates provisions of Venice Commission Code of Good Practice in electoral matters.
