Two American basketball players, who play for ACS Cuza Brăila, eastern Romania, were attacked on Saturday evening by several individuals while they were on a terrace in the city center. One of them is in serious condition, according to medical authorities.
The two athletes, aged 24 and 25 years, were violently hit with fists and bottles, but also with a knife.
One basketball player is in serious condition, with a perforated lung. He was transported by helicopter on Sunday to the Floreasca Emergency Hospital in Bucharest, to undergo surgery. His condition is unpredictable.
The other basketball player also has stab wounds in his chest and stomach, but is now stable and in intensive care, say doctors in the Brăila County Emergency Hospital, quoted by RRA correspondent Gina Bahor.
The two came to the ACS Cuza Brăila a month ago, and on September 27 they had scheduled a match in Cluj Napoca.
