Transilvania International Film Festival, at its 17th edition, starts today in Cluj-Napoca, with the festive opening ceremony in Unirii Square this evening.

Until 3 June, over 200 films from 51 countries, including almost 180 feature films, will be screened. Each of the selected films will be screened at least twice, both in traditional cinemas and in unconventional locations.Spectators will be able to gather in the outdoor cinema.

Many tourists from all over the world have already arrived in Cluj Napoca, to take part in this festival.

An international jury composed of five international personalities of the seventh art will award the following prizes:

"Transilvania" Trophy – to the best film in the Official Competition, worth 15.000 Euros (equally divided between the director and the main producer),

Best Director – worth 5000 Euros (goes to the director of the film),

Special Jury Award – worth 1500 Euros (goes to the director of the film),

Best Performance Award - worth 1000 euro (goes to the awarded actor or actress)

Best Actor or Actress – worth 1000 Euros (goes to the awarded actor or actress).

Other awards:

FIPRESCI Award – offered by a Jury composed by members of the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) to a feature film from a thematic section chosen annually by the artistic director of the festival,

Audience Award – chosen by the audience, through vote, to a film from the Official Competition,

Excellence Award – offered to a Romanian film personality,

Lifetime Achievement Award – offered to an international film personality,

Best "Shadows" Short – the prize money goes to the director of the film,

Romanian Days Award:Feature Film – the prize money are equally divided between the director and the main producer,

Romanian Days Award: Short Film – the prize money goes to the director of the film,

Romanian Days Award: Best Debut– the prize money goes to the winner.
