Transalpina will be opened to traffic earlier than scheduled. Authorities in Gorj announced that tourists will be able to cross the spectacular road starting next week.
The snow removal works are almost finished, the machines intervening continuously in the last weeks. Due to the heavy snowfall last winter, the process was difficult. In some areas the snow layer exceeded even five meters.
Transalpina is a national road in the Parang Mountains, which connects the cities of Novaci, in Gorj County, and Sebes, in Alba.
It is the highest road in Romania, reaching an altitude of 2.145 meters. Being a mountain road, it is closed in winter time.
