Romania won three medals on Sunday – two Silver and a Bronze one – at the 2017 ICF Canoe Sprint Junior and U23 World Championships that took place in Pitești, Romania (Bascov-Budeasa National Sports Complex) during 27-30 July.

The men's 4K4 500m race brought Romania the first Bronze Medal: Răzvan Albişoru, Cosmin Lulciuc, Aurelian Ciocan and Sorin Cical made a splendid race, very close to getting the Silver Medal. The performance of Ionel Raţă’s team is the first step towards the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

In the Junior category, Laura Pleșca și Adrieana Mihai, trained by Irina Gloabă, won the Silver Medal in the women’s K-2 500 m race that was dominated by the Belarusian representatives.

The third trophy – Silver Medal for the 500-meter Canoe race – was won by Cătălin Chirilă and Constantin Dâba, who led the race almost to the end but were overtaken in the last 50 meters by the Moldavian crew.

Romania ranked 20th out of 24 nations that have won at least a medal. World Championship podium was dominated by Hungary, with 18 medals (7 Gold, 8 Silver and 3 Bronze), Germany 7 (4-2-1) and China 4 (all – Gold).
