The United States is working with Romania and the Republic of Moldova to increase Ukraine's grain exports, a senior State Department official said in Washington.
He said an alternative route was via the Danube after Russia pulled out of a deal that allowed Ukrainian grain to be exported through a secure Black Sea corridor.
"We will try to double the amount that goes on this route", the American official said.
In the coming weeks, there will be a meeting with Romanians and Moldovans to discuss maximizing the Danube route, he also announced, under the cover of anonymity.
