The United States Ambassador to Bucharest, Kathleen Kavalec, presented the main objectives of her mandate in Romania. The statements were made at the end of a meeting she had at the American Corner at the Timis County Library with Ukrainian refugees who are taking English language courses.

Kathleen Ann Kavalec: I have three major goals: strengthening the security relationship between the United States and Romania, especially right now, in relation to the situation in Ukraine, on all possible fronts, including the refugee front - we just met with some, a second set of goals focuses on trade and investment, especially in energy, and the third set of goals is about strengthening democracy, which means fighting corruption, freedom of the press, compliance with the law, and introducing programs that will ensure the support of democracy.

Mrs. Kavalec, who recently took up her position as ambassador to Romania, also worked in the past at the US Embassy in Bucharest, as a cultural attache in the 1999-2001 period.
