The European Medicines Agency recommended for use in the EU the covid-19 vaccine produced by AstraZeneca.

It is the third vaccine authorized for sale in the European Union.

The head of the Agency, Emer Cooke, stated that it is not yet clear whether the new vaccine is also effective against covid-19 mutations.

According to the evaluation of the European Medicines Agency, the AstraZeneca vaccine is almost 60% effective against infection with coronavirus.

AstraZeneca can be administered to people over the age of 18 and is based on adenovirus technology, unlike those produced by BioNTech / Pfizer and Moderna which are based on messenger RNA technology.

There are currently tensions between AstraZeneca and the European Commission, after the company announced that it will not deliver, in the next period, the number of doses promised to the Union.

On Sunday, European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen will hold a meeting with all the heads of pharmaceutical companies with whom the Union has contracts to purchase vaccines against covid-19.

The European Medicines Agency called for the creation of not only vaccines but also new treatments for covid-19.
