The number one priority of the national energy transport system must be the direct current cable, which will cross Romania from east to west, says energy minister Virgil Popescu.

The projects to create new electricity production capacities are numerous, but they also depend on strengthening the transport system and balancing the national energy system.

Virgil Popescu: Obviously, we want to go to the second phase of the Doicesti project and this year we also want to launch the production of products with a long manufacturing cycle. Basically, we want to enter in a straight line, to complete the UPC contracts, in such a way that, so to speak, the modular reactors and the Cernavoda reactors enter the final schedule 2028-2029, Small Modular Reactors, 2030-2031 unit 3 and unit 4.

The minister also stated that together with the National Energy Regulatory Authority, discussions are being held with all distributors in order to prioritize their investments in such a way that as much renewable energy can be taken over.
