The Phantom of the Opera, by Andrew Lloyd Webber, the longest-running musical on Broadway, was staged at the Bucharest Opera today.

The first performances were sold out only 10 hours after the tickets went on sale.

Irina Baiant: From my point of view, "Phantom of the Opera" is not a show to see only once. You are meant to take in all the information that will be offered to you, because, at the same time, it is a show that offers a lot from a visual point of view, from an auditory point of view and from an emotional point of view, and I think at least two visits are necessary to see the show, to really understand and take it in. And what has been prepared and what we hold inside us, and we can't wait to give to people, is, first of all, the situation that happens in everyone's lives, that is, that moment when life takes us into the darkest corners of our being and then lifts us to the highest heights, precisely so that we can understand what the power of choice means.

"Phantom of the Opera" has won 70 important awards to date.

For the Bucharest production, they worked with mixed teams from Broadway and the London West End Theatre, the artistic level being similar to that of New York.
