The "Jalopy Program" begins for individuals
The environment Minister Laszlo Borbely said that the program starts with 114 million lei allocated for 30 thousand cars. The program will be supplemented if demand exists.

Starting with 3 April, individuals can destroy cars older than ten years in REMAT centers.
"Jalopy program had a dramatic trend in 2010 when we changed the rules, meaning that a machine can be purchased by calling three vouchers 3,800 lei each." said the Ministry of the environment, Laszlo Borbely.
Since then and until now, about 300,000 cars older than ten years were removed from circulation, and about 100,000 new cars were bought, according to Laszlo Borbely.
He said that this year, the program starts with 114 million lei allocated for 30,000 cars. The program will be supplemented if there is demand.
"I hope that from 3 April individual car owners can go to REMAT centers to quash them. For legal entities, start date could be April 18." says Laszlo Borbely.
The list of manufacturers, car importers and authorized dealers to participate in to the 2012 incentive program of the national car park renewal and the economic operators authorized to carry out collection and treatment of out of use vehicles will be published on the website AFM, www.afm.ro, under "Programme to stimulate the national car park renewal 2012".
The Jalopy program over the past two years, 305,964 used cars were scrapped and 101,766 new cars were purchased, of which 40,269 of indigenous origin.
