The export of electric energy "might be suspended"

The Government approved a normative act which specifies that the furnishing of electric energy can be diminished or even temporarily suspended in order not to affect the internal use. The prime-minister says that the act is preventive.

The supply of electric energy for export might be reduced or even temporarily suspended in order not to affect the internal use, in case that the meteorological conditions imply a consistent consumption growth in Romania.

Prime-minister Mihai Răzvan Ungureanu restated, on Tuesday, that there was no problem with the furnishing of electric energy to household and industrial consumers, the government decision adopted by the executive having a preventive function, everything being designed to supply better the individual consumers.

“This government decision is necessary because of its assuring nature. There is no problem regarding the furnishing of electric energy to household and industrial consumers, and the measure is of preventive order”, said Mihai Răzvan Ungureanu.

The government approved, on Tuesday morning, the bill that allows the reduction of exports in order to avoid any problems with the electric energy supply to the population and the internal industrial consumers.

This way, the executive wants to make sure that there will be no problems with the domestic supplies, based on the vagueness that appeared in these past few days, after the statements made by the director of Transelectrica, later dismissed because he was accused of delivering false information regarding the safety of the supply.

The dismissal of the director of Transelectrica, Horia Hăhăianu, started from a press release posted four days before on the institution’s site, with the title of important announcement, which seems to have bothered a lot the minister Lucian Bode.

“I will read a sentence from here if you wish <<The reserves necessary for a safe functioning are inexistent>>. How can you say something like this when the reality is different? The reason is, I emphasize, poor communication”.

“It is not allowed to come with this sort of messages, firstly because it creates agitation and secondly because the Ministry I lead has to know when a subordinate company has this type of initiatives”, specified Lucian Bode.

The situation of the furnishing of electric energy “under control”

Martin Cernat, director at the company Transelectrica, emphasizes that the decision is of preventive nature, so that, in case of the reduction of energy resources, there won’t be any problems supplying the population and the internal industrial consumers.

This kind of situation could appear if the low temperatures persist.

The company has the legal right to reduce the supplies for the companies that commercialize in Hungary, Bulgary or Serbia, says Marian Cernat, without Transelectrica having to pay penalties.

In case that the measure of suspending the exports would not be efficient either, the next decision that can be made by the company is to suspend the industrial consumers.

The population will not be affected, Martin Cernat assures.

“Applying these measures in case they are necessary, there is no risk of having unpowered consumers in our country.”

“The purpose of this government decision is to provide the necessary quantities especially for the internal consumption, in order not to be in the situation of having to resort to the normative of reduction or disconnection of the consumers”, Marian Cernat declared.

The director of Transelectrica also mentioned that the moment there would be no other way to balance production and consumption, there is a normative act of manual disconnection of some consumers, from metallurgical companies, iron and steel companies, aluminum and chemical plants.

Marian Cernat wanted to emphasize the fact that in the normative act of manual disconnections the household consumption is not included.

“Besides, it does not represent a significant percentage and we do not have household consumers in this normative”, the director from Transelectrica added.
