Prime Minister Victor Ponta said that he wishes to remove the items of overlapping ministries, saying that it makes any social protection through functions in Government.

Prime Minister Victor Ponta pleaded Saturday after the first meeting of the Government of the new cabinet, for cutting red tape and elimination of positions of overlapping ministries, saying that social protection is not done by the functions in the Government.

“This restructuring is not just an obligation to all the Ministers but it is an opportunity for all directions and overlapping posts to be reduced.”

“Each Minister at the time he comes with the Government decision on organizing his own portfolio based on the information that I have from Finances and GSG, it sure will reduce the staffing scheme”, Victor Ponta said after the meeting of the Executive.

Answering to a question about the possibility to be layoffs in the ministries, the Prime Minister said that “If we don't need them, why should we keep?”

“We do not make social protection through the Government functions”, said Victor Ponta.
The Prime Minister has argued that current Ministers have fewer counselors than had the members of the previous Governments and that “including the Deputy Prime Minister without portfolio Gabriel Oprea has only eight advisors”, half from the number referred to organizing scheme.

Victor Ponta announced that the Government has adopted an Emergency Ordinance on the reorganization of the central public administration signed by all of the new Ministers.
“Today, the Government is operating at normal capacity, I'll call the Secretaries of State, and on December 27, we have the following Government session,” said the Premier.

The new structure of the regions, passed by Parliament, until the end of June

The Prime Minister has argued that by the end of June when the first parliamentary session ends, he wants the regionalization to pass through Parliament, and if “the procedures regionalization plan in 2013 is not done” we no longer make too soon”.

“Regionalization must be laid down in the Constitution and this thing will be done in Parliament. At the moment there are no regions in the Constitution.

We want by the end of June, when it ends the first parliamentary session, to have passed by Parliament, with two thirds, the new structure of the regions.

“And not just with the two-thirds of the SDP, but from my point of view through discussions with all the other political forces.

“After that, however, we need the referendum to ratify the revision of the Constitution made by the Parliament”, sustained Victor Ponta.

The Prime Minister also said that if these things will not be made in 2013 they will no longer be made '' too soon ''.

“I say it also on a political way, if we do not make in 2013 we will no longer do too soon. In 2014 it will be already electoral campaign for presidential, it starts the electoral disputes and will be hard to have a consensus for such an important problem. 2013 without elections, it's time that we can take important decisions”, ended the Prime Minister.

Aid for the areas affected by the weather

The Government has also adopted, at its meeting on Saturday, a decision on the removal from State reserves of products and providing internal emergency humanitarian assistance, free of charge for the population of the counties: Botosani and Vrancea.
