Summer Festival of snow at Bâlea Lake

On Saturday and Sunday at Bâlea lake in the Făgăras Mountains, will take place the Summer Festival of Snow.

On the platform at Bâlea Lake Weather Station the snow layer measures 22 cm, but within the Bâlea Lake pot are still areas where the snow overcomes more than one meter.

For this the eighteenth edition of the Snow Summer festivities, the organizers have prepared all kinds of competitions: slalom competition on skis and snowboards, an ATV circuit against time on snow, cross-Relay around Lake Bâlea, rope pulling contest on the snow, soccer, volleyball, shooting competitions, all performed on snow.

Also, as new, there will be organized a triathlon competition in slalom skiing followed by a cross around the parking lot of the tunnel and shooting, against time, but also a competitive cross-mountain on Bâlea Lac-Saddle Lady route.

If time allows, several paragliders will be demonstrating paragliding jumps but they will make also other surprises. The competition will begin on Saturday at 11 am and evening party moves to Bâlea waterfall.

Beware, however, Transfăgărăşan remains officially closed to circulation until July 1, so the only access is from Sibiu and Brasov, by the cable car Bâlea waterfall. Whoever still tries to get a car at his own risk should be aware that there are risks, especially since the last 2-3 km of uphill road is flanked by snow.
